How to find a good açaí bowl
An açaí bowl is frozen açaí berry blended thick and topped with fruit, granola and honey. Quality depends on the açaí itself — unsweetened or sweetened — and on how much else has been blended in.
What separates a good one from a bad one
- Thick enough to eat with a spoon — Like soft-serve, not a smoothie.
- Unsweetened açaí option — Many places use pre-sweetened packs. Unsweetened lets the berry taste through.
- Fresh fruit on top — Banana, strawberries, blueberries, sliced to order.
- Crunchy granola — House-made, ideally.
- Honey or nut butter as an option — Not drowned by default.
What to order
- Classic açaí bowl — With banana, berries and granola.
- Pitaya bowl — Dragon fruit, for a change.
- Peanut butter açaí — More filling.
- Unsweetened base — If available.
- Add coconut flakes — For texture.
