How to find a good food hall
A food hall puts many small restaurants under one roof, which is the single best answer to a group that cannot agree on what to eat. Good ones are curated — local, independent vendors — rather than a mall food court with better lighting.
What separates a good one from a bad one
- Independent vendors — Local restaurants and chefs, not chains.
- Variety — Different cuisines, plus coffee, dessert and a bar.
- Shared seating that works — Enough tables, at busy times.
- A bar — A central bar makes it a place to stay.
- Busy at lunch and dinner — Turnover keeps vendors cooking fresh.
What to order
- Something from two or three vendors — That's the point.
- The vendor with a line — Usually the best.
- Share plates — To try more.
- Dessert from a different counter — After.
- A drink from the bar — While you decide.
