How to find good gelato

Gelato is denser and served warmer than ice cream, with intense flavour. The easiest way to spot a good gelateria is counter-intuitive: the best ones hide their gelato in covered metal tins rather than piling it into colourful mountains.

What is the difference between gelato and ice cream?

Gelato contains more milk and less cream than ice cream, often fewer egg yolks, and is churned more slowly so it holds less air. It is served slightly warmer. The result is denser, silkier and more intensely flavoured. Ice cream is richer in fat and lighter in texture.

How Savor Scout looks for it

The search reads for artisanal, made daily, pistachio and Italian, and treats reviewers mentioning covered tins or natural colour as a strong positive.
